A Little Bit About The Region…

Canillas de Albaida, Competa, Archez, Salares and Sedella are villages which stand at the foot of the impressive Sierras de Tejeda und Almijara; all morisco (Moorish convert to Christianity) villages, where vines were the main crop and are still an important element in the landscape as well as the economy; all display similar characteristics, reflecting the true essence of the Axarquia region, its scenery, its way of life and its history.

The layout of their streets and the architecture of their whitewashed houses, which create unforgettably-picturesque corners, gives them a unique seal of identity, so much so that, together, they make up what is known as the Mudejar Route (Ruta del Mudéjar).

Canillas de Albaida

Located atop a hill, overlooking banked slopes of rich vegetable gardens which together with the village itself create an attractive panorama in which Our Lady”s Church is the highlight. The main plaza and church is a 15 minute walk from Finca Flor.

Competa

Located seven hundred metres above sea level, and only a 7 minute drive from Finca Flor, with stunning views of the surrounding mountains, countryside and Mediterranean, Competa is best known to many for its locally produced wine, available both dry and sweet, as well as being plentiful and cheap.

Archez

Archez, known as the “Crown Jewel of the 17th Century,” is one of the smallest and prettiest towns in the Axarquia comarca of Malaga. You can walk into Archez in around 15 minutes from Finca Flor.

Corombela

Located on a mountain, its whiteness and love of simplicity are striking. The white houses raise their walls like pure flags, the alleys are spaces for passage, transit for people and animals, rather you feel in each crossing, in each one, the atmosphere of the family yard.

Sayalonga

Located half way up the mountain road, heading towards Competa, Sayalonga offers a welcome break from the winding road…

Acebuchal

Also known locally as the lost village, Acebuchal is reach on foot walking through the hills of the Parque Natural de las Sierras de Tejeda Almijara.

“Finca Flor was one of the highlights of our walking holiday this year, it offers total escapism and the hosts, Nicky and Keith, could not have been more welcoming.”
